Dreams Make You, Break You, Shape You & Take You to Places Unknown
“Dreams, they make you, they break you,
they shape you, they take you
to places unknown.”
IN MY DREAM...
I witness the beginning of the universe, so spectacular that it is more like the creation of a masterpiece by Leonardo Da Vinci than a loud bang.
I watch the Red Sea part, forever to be a symbol of freedom.
I sit in on David's writings of songs of hope and songs of lament.
I pass a dirty stable just outside the city of David and hear a baby cry.
I look into the eyes of a woman who by law was supposed to be stoned, but was set free by scandalous grace.
IN MY DREAM...
I see a bloody cross as the day shook and turned to night. I see a woman 3 days later, running out of a cemetery, with a look of astonishment and disbelief.
I see people in power hijack the message of love and turn it into power, greed and death.
I see Gutenberg produce a machine that will allow the religiously enslaved masses to have a voice.
I ride with Napoleon as he changes the map of Europe.
I cheer on a woman named Araminta, whose name was changed to Harriet, as she takes her famous 13 mission trips to rescue enslaved families.
IN MY DREAM...
I kneel in a bloody balcony, holding the limp body of a man who gave his life for the freedom from slavery.
I hide out in the cockpit of the Wright brothers first flight that instantly made our world smaller.
I sit with millions of hungry families when the stocks fell off the wall and took a great fall.
I jump into the frigid waters of France with sacrificial men storming the beach, beginning the end of a demonic German dictator.
I run with Jewish refugees towards Allied soldiers after becoming aware that they have just been liberated.
I fly in the Enola Gay that drops a regretful bomb on innocent people.
IN MY DREAM...
I escape with Elias Michael Chacour, born in Galilee, Palestine as his family takes refuge from occupied Yishuv forces.
I walk solemnly with a Japanese family returning home from a relocation camp in Idaho.
I tear up with pride as Ruby Bridges bravely walks up the stairs, becoming the first African-American to attend a white elementary school.
I stand in disbelief as Martin Luther King Jr. removes a burnt cross from his front yard with his son by his side.
I see a man in a window shoot a President that sends a nation into mourning, never to recover.
IN MY DREAM...
I stand on the moon with Neil Armstrong, who declares one giant step for mankind.
I kneel in another balcony in Memphis trying to stop the bleeding of a man who had a dream that we must not be judged by the color of our skin but by the content of our character.
I hide in a closet in Munich with Israeli athletes, as terrorists shoot and kidnap the Olympic Games.
I weep in the hospital rooms of the forgotten millions of men dying of AIDS, judged and condemned by the self-righteous, who talk about God but are full of hate.
I kneel broken hearted, as I watch trusted men in robes lure innocent boys into dark, back rooms.
IN MY DREAM...
I hold frightened hands in Kigali, in the homes of Tutsis as genocide reigns.
I run down 40 floors with fellow workers as giant planes crash above us, changing the world as we know it.
I sleep with the homeless as banks fail and greed takes its place on the throne.
I hold a war-torn, crying baby, in the rubble of Aleppo, with flowers blooming in bomb craters, while most of the world looks the other way, ignoring the words of history that how we care for the alien will determine our blessings.
I watch as a virus awakens and stocks are shaken and we shop with masks finding empty shelves. The world, too sick to riot, streets abandoned, quiet, while food lines grow, employment disappears and the rich keep winning and politicians keep grinning.
THE DREAM of a Live58 Church is to "loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? To share our food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-- when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?” Isaiah 58:6-7
“Dreams, they shake you, they awake you,
they carry you, they lead you
to places unkhown.”
