Waiting, It’s What We Humans Do
No one likes to wait
No one likes a long line
From traffic, to appointments, to postponements
No one likes delays of any kind
Waiting! It's what we humans do
The waiting of a single person not wanting to be alone
The waiting of test results sitting by the phone
The waiting of a jobless person, wondering what will give
The waiting of a depressed person, finally wanting to live
Waiting! It's what we humans do
The waiting for the pieces of a broken heart to finally mend
The waiting of a rigid love, to soften, to bend
The waiting of a dream, that seemingly keeps moving farther away
The waiting of a single mom, wondering if she'll have strength for another day
Waiting! It's what we humans do
I'm learning what happens to my soul while I wait may be more important than what I’m waiting for
I'm learning while I wait, to allow my soul to heal and open pain’s hidden door
I'm learning that it's in waiting where I gain new perspective
Where I let go of grandiosity and masked perfection
It's in waiting I re-prioritize, discovering a new appreciation
For simplicity, peace, joy and faithful friends given from creation
Waiting! It's what we humans do
I'm learning patience, to be grateful today, no obsession of the future
There's no promise of tomorrow, so I breathe in the moment, it’s the only thing I know for sure
Waiting teaches me humility because I’m not as in control as I think
It has brought me to my knees, humbled by fragility, it has brought me to the brink
But ultimately, waiting teaches me to trust in someone bigger
Reminding me endings are new beginnings, and higher dreams to consider
Created for heroic adventures, even greater things
Made in His image, we are eternal beings
My destiny lies in waiting
I’m learning to embrace it
No more running
No more debating
I’m learning to trust, laugh, love, forgive, keeping my eyes on the prize
It’s about moving forward, sometimes at a crawl, finding new strength in the coming sunrise
Waiting! It's what we humans do
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
