The Hardest Thing You Will Do

Change is hard, it’s why so few do

Comfort our religion, afraid to throw away old shoes

With holes in our soles, the odors nauseating

But they fit so well, while our unknown journey is terrifying

Change is hard, it’s why not many do

Our new year's resolutions, we have quite a few

But tradition has become our God, focused on the good ol’ days

Though God is doing new things, leading us to unseen, transforming ways

Change is hard, it often paralyzes

Fear chokes new adventure, as it spits out the devil’s lies

I need to change, but not ready to commit

Afraid of the cost, afraid to submit

Change is hard, when you try, some will ridicule

Spectator wisdom, calling the player a fool

They cover their ears, hoping reality will go away

Addicted to the now, begging for one more status quo day

Change is hard, it's the hardest thing you'll do

But it’s for all of us, not just the chosen few

Listen to your heart, ignore cultures cue

For the weight of old will slide off, you’ll be liberated by new

Change is hard, but God is committed to you

To lift you up, cheering you on, helping you through

To walk alongside, offering you strength, one breath, one step, each moment, each day

His promise and legacy, is to give you POWER ALONG THE WAY

“See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19
